24. Raffle Coordinator
A raffle during the last few days of the SFL week, after the Silent
Auction has concluded, can be a fun addition to any SFL event. It can
also be financially rewarding to SFL.
The most important factor in determining whether or not a raffle is to
be held is the availability of a meaningful, high-value, or evocative
raffle prize.
The role of the Raffle Coordinator is to solicit or identify a raffle prize
that is suitable, and to organize and conduct the selling of raffle tickets
during the event.
Pre-Event
July 1
- Ask the Corporate Sponsor Chair to look for and solicit the donation of a meaningful high-value raffle prize from a corporate sponsor during the Outdoor Retailer Show.
November 1
- If no suitable raffle prize donation has been obtained from a corporate Sponsor, begin searching for a suitable raffle prize from other sources. The most popular prizes in
recent years have included:
- A one-week stay at a vacation property
- A themed package of smaller items, such as a backpack, sleeping bag and tent
- A rowing machine or other exercise equipment
- Something specific to the event location, such as riding in a dog sled
for the ceremonial start of the Iditarod in Anchorage
International Week
Sunday
- Review prize status with the SFL President and Event Chair and determine if a raffle is to be held during the week.
Wednesday
- If a raffle is to be conducted, recruite four to six people to serve as ticket sellers. Provide each of them with a supply of raffle tickets, obtainable from the Information Room.
Thursday
- At breakfast, announce the raffle details and plans.
- Begin selling raffle tickets during the day.
Saturday
- Continue selling raffle tickets up to the time of the prize drawing.
- During the Banquet draw the winning ticket and award the raffle prize.
