Please read the information on this page carefully before making your travel plans to attend Ski for Light 2013. After your plans are made, please send us the details of your plans on the 2013 Travel Form which is linked near the bottom of this page.

Your Day of Arrival

Your scheduled day of arrival at Shanty Creek Resorts is shown in your Acceptance Letter. For most people this will be Sunday, January 27th. Major exceptions are Board members, who arrive on Thursday January 24th, Guide Trainers, who arrive on Friday, January 25th, and first- and second-year guides, who arrive on Saturday, January 26th.

If you wish to arrive or depart on a day different from what is shown in your acceptance letter please be sure to discuss your wishes with your Applications Coordinator before making your final plans.

Getting To and From Shanty Creek Resorts

On your arrival day, you may make your own arrangements for getting to Shanty Creek Resorts, or meet the Ski for Light contingent at one of two airports, from where you may take the free shuttle bus to Shanty Creek Resorts that SFL will be providing.

If you will be travelling to Shanty Creek Resorts by car, here is a map with driving directions

If you will be travelling to Michigan by plane you have the choice of flying into and out of either the Traverse City or Grand Rapids airports. You will want to check schedules and fares from your home airport to both Michigan airports, as fares will vary in some cases. Before doing so, please read the information below carefully to understand other factors that you need to know in making travel plans.

• The Traverse City airport is located 40 miles, or 45 minutes, from Shanty Creek Resorts by car or bus. The airport is served by American, Delta and United airlines, with about 15 inbound flights per day. The SFL bus to Shanty Creek Resorts from this airport will operate on Thursday January 24th, Friday January 25th, Saturday January 26th and Sunday January 27th, with the bus departing the airport promptly at 4:30 pm each day. On Sunday February 3rd, the SFL bus from Shanty Creek Resorts will arrive at this airport at about 7:00 am. If you are unable to schedule flights that work well with the SFL bus schedule, you may be able to find other ground transportation options on the airport's website.
• The Grand Rapids airport is located 160 miles, or three hours, from Shanty Creek Resorts by car or bus. The airport is served by seven airlines, with about 60 inbound flights per day. The SFL bus to Shanty Creek Resorts from this airport will operate on Thursday January 24th, Friday January 25th, Saturday January 26th and Sunday January 27th, with the bus departing the airport promptly at 2:30 pm each day. On Sunday February 3rd, the SFL bus from Shanty Creek Resorts will arrive at this airport at about 10:00 am. If you are unable to schedule flights that work well with the SFL bus schedule, you will need to either rent a car, or change your arrival day to one day earlier, coupled with an overnight stay at an airport hotel. There do not seem to be any ground transportation options for travelling to Shanty Creek Resorts from Grand Rapids.
